Sri Lanka Surf Safari
Bentota:
Left & Rights, sometimes good hollow tubey sections off the point on a southerly swell. Lal & and the boys will take care of you. Good rights from behind the rock in the middle of the beach and give you good walls to smash. Nov - April best time of year to hit it. Best to give it a miss if the swell is big.
Hikkaduwa
Left & rights on the reef that dish up nice "A Frame" peaks and nice fast section off the take off. Usually crowded and lots of foreigners amongst them. Local blokes are good surfers and have the place wired so take it all in and hit it.
Unawatuna
Nice right hand reef break that on it day is a tubefest, clean, clear and walled. This would be a Sri Lanka favourite but very commercialised and hold good size too.
Marrisa
Two spots here with the best being the right hander that peels off the rocks or sometimes it is an A Frame in the middle of the break if the swell is really straight. Godd spot to get off the rocks if it is small but bigger it is a nightmare and the water bubbles up where the submerged rocks are. Getting in is tricky as there is an urchin infested reef that runs the full length of the bay beach (check the pic below). Good placd to stay is the Calm Rest and it is no more than 50m from the Beach and is fully renovated after the Tsunami.
A Bay
Easily the best Right hander in the country and the one of the best i have surfed after Burleigh, Kirra, Tea Tree and Double Island then Agnes & Rocky point. Long righ handers from rocky take off that reel out around the the bay onto the sand. Holds good size in the right conditions.
